This policy covers the Regatta Racer app for Android phones and Wear OS watches, and this website, regattaracer.app. Regatta Racer is an independent app made in Melbourne, Australia. Questions about privacy can go to support@regattaracer.app.
The short version
- Regatta Racer has no accounts and no sign-up.
- Your location is used on your device to time starts, navigate and record races. Your race tracks are stored on your phone or watch and are not sent to us.
- The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking code.
- Payments are handled by Google Play. We never see your card details.
- We don’t sell or share personal information.
What the app uses and why
Location
The app uses your device’s precise location (GPS) while a countdown or race is running. It needs this to show speed and heading, to work out time and distance to the start line, to navigate to marks and to record your track. The start line ends you set and the tracks you record are saved in the app’s storage on your device. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else.
Android asks for your permission before the app can use location, and you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings. The countdown still works without location, but the start line, navigation and race recording features do not.
Race history and settings
Your race history, settings and the number of races you have used are stored on your device. Deleting a race in the app removes it. Uninstalling the app removes everything it has stored.
Syncing between phone and watch
If you use both the phone and watch apps, they exchange settings, timer state, race counts and subscription status so they stay in step. This uses Google’s Wearable Data Layer, part of Google Play services, which passes the data between your own devices. Google Play services may relay it through Google’s servers when the devices aren’t connected directly. None of it is sent to us.
Notifications and alarms
The app uses notifications, exact alarms and vibration so that countdown signals still sound and vibrate if the screen turns off or you switch to another app. No information is collected for this.
Exporting races
When you export a race as a GPX file, the app creates the file and hands it to whichever app or location you choose. Nothing is exported unless you ask for it.
Subscriptions and purchases
Subscriptions are bought through Google Play, under Google’s terms and privacy policy. The app checks with Google Play whether you have an active subscription. Google provides us with transaction records such as the order number, product, price and country, which we use for accounting and to handle refunds. We do not receive your payment details.
Reviews
After a few races the app may show Google Play’s review prompt. Any rating or review you leave is posted through your Google account under Google’s terms. The app is not told whether you left one.
Crash and performance reports
The app has no crash reporting or analytics code of its own. If you have allowed your device to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google may give us aggregated crash and performance statistics through the Google Play Console. These don’t identify you.
